EMC has successfully obtained both ISO 9001:2001 and ISO 14001:2004 certification.
UK open source software specialist, Enterprise Management Consulting (EMC), has today announced that the company has achieved ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certification, for software development, provision of software solutions and IT helpdesk services. The certifications were awarded by BM TRADA, a UKAS accredited body. The two ISO standards, for management quality and environmental management standards respectively, are now virtual prerequisites for significant public sector contracts and are held in high regard by most private sector organisations.
“This certification now allows us to compete on a level playing field with larger proprietary software vendors, and bring the potential cost savings of OSS to large public and private sector tenders,” comments Malcolm Macsween, managing director of EMC. “We are one of only a handful of independent open source software (OSS) consultancies to have achieved these certifications. It is a extremely important recognition of our company’s commitment to high standards of project management, customer care and sustainable business.”
EMC focuses on the strategic use of free open source software to lower the cost of IT and communications projects. The company offers advice on where OSS can be practical and cost effective in any particular project, providing help with choosing the most appropriate applications and components from the myriad of OSS solutions available. In addition, EMC offers customised development using OSS components, implementation and integration of systems into mixed and proprietary software environments, as well as full ongoing service and support for OSS solutions.
“Some of the larger OSS solution providers have the relevant ISO certifications, but they are still largely companies with a vested interest in selling their own specific solution,” explains Macsween. “We believe EMC will be one of the first impartial consultancies, capable of competing on large government tenders, by choosing freely from what the open source community has to offer.”
EMC believes its use of robust open source software solutions was instrumental in achieving both certifications, but particularly the ISO 14001:2004 certification for environmental management standards. By using stable software running on the Linux platform, EMC is able to provide remote support for the majority of its customers across the UK. This eliminates the need for unnecessary travel, reducing costs and environmental impact by providing customers with a better architected, more stable product.
EMC are proud to announce that on 13th July 2010 we were awarded Dun & Bradstreet's Rating 1 status.
Only 15% of businesses in the UK are in receipt of this rating, which reflects companies with the highest level of creditworthiness and the minimum risk of failure.
